This is not a real Haber Report, just a heads up on what’s happening. We just spent a few fun days at Yosemite. It is clearly majestic. The word that comes to mind first is: rocks, lots of large granite rocks. The scenery is beautiful. If you go in June, there are wonderful huge waterfalls (and many of you know that I love waterfalls). Later in the summer they dry up; they are caused by the run-off of snow. So if you’re planning on visiting, come in June.
Today we drove from Yosemite to Sequoia National Park. It took us nearly 5 hours, including a stop at a series of old historic houses (wasn’t worth the stop) and lunch in Fresno at a Chinese buffet for $8.99 (which wasn’t bad). Then we arrived at “the poshest accommodations in the park”–NOT. There’s a main house that has the registration desk, a little gift shop and the dining room (the only place to eat). There are 3 buildings that house 100 rooms. The room is a rustic motel type room. Can you imagine what is going on here? Yes, I am sure you can. After all that driving along twisty turning roads on the edge of cliffs 7000 feet up in the air… Ah well, the scenery is beautiful. Oh and there’s no internet in the room; I’m in the lobby of the main building; Marty is patiently waiting for me to finish. You can just imagine the comfort level…
Tomorrow we are driving over to Kings Canyon National Park to see the canyon; supposed to be deeper than the Grand Canyon; will take 90 minutes to get there (and yes another 90 minutes to get back). We’ll explore Sequoia National Park on Saturday.
Funny story: we seem to still be on NY time (or somewhere in the mid-west). We keep falling asleep early and waking up early. This morning we were lying in bed around 6 AM wide awake and telling each other about the weird dreams we both had last night. We were laughing, apparently too loudly. From next door, there came a loud bang on the wall and the admonition to “keep it down; some of us are trying to sleep”!! And this was at the Ahwahnee Hotel–theplace to stay at Yosemite.
More some other time.
Love,
The Traveler
