Dear Readers,
After I sent out my first edition of The Haber Travel Report, I realized there were some overall comments I had neglected to include! But let me start off by thanking the early responders to my report; individual responses will emanate from New Zealand.
Sydney is a great city for walking around. Most of the tourist sights are within easy reach of our hotel which was a very nice modern Westin in the business section of town. Neighborhoods in Sydney are referred to as suburbs. We actually took a bus to get to the suburb where the Elizabeth Bay House is. From there we walked to the Jewish Museum; that area felt like walking through Chelsea in London.
The weather in Sydney was great for touring; nice and warm; in the ’70’s. The day we went on the ferry it was actually hot so it was great being on the water; we sit outside of course.
The people here have all very friendly and easy to understand; no language barrier! Marty, of course, keeps finding waiters from foreign countries and speaks with them in their native tongue.
The Chinese restaurant we went to last night was in Chinatown. It had a similar feeling to NY’s (or San Francisco’s) Chinatown. The restaurant was very large with many Asians eating; always a good sign. However, unfortunately the meal was mediocre. It was less expensive than the other meals we’ve had but still more expensive than Chinatown in NY.
Leaving city life behind us now. We’re off to buccolic New Zealand.
Much love,
Irene
